Hello everybody! This video will show you how to create a VPNserver on a Windows computer and how to connect to such server from another PC. Such VPN server can be used:ā¢ for anonymous browsing the Web, as the real IP address is concealed;ā¢ to bypass the blocks set by the network administrator, or restrictions of the Internetprovider; ā¢ to encrypt the transmitted data;ā¢ to access blocked websites from your country; ā¢ to enable downloading files from p2p networks(such as torrents); ā¢ to protect your computer when connectingto free WiFi.
Certainly, if you need VPN to bypass blockingof some websites by your provider, or just to hide your IP address when surfing the web,you donāt have to set up a VPN server. You can use ready-made services instead. You can learn more from another video. Find the link in the description: So, create a VPN server on your computer:ā¢ go to Network and Sharing Center / Change adapter settingsā¢ In the folder Network Connections, press Altbutton and select File / New incoming connectionā¦
ā¢ Check the box next to the user name toallow this user to access this computer and network. Other computers will connect here throughVPN. ā¢ Next. ā¢ Check the box next to the option āThroughthe Internet.ā ā¢ Next. ā¢ In this window, donāt change anythingand click āAllow accessā ā¢ Now the VPN server is created. Now letās imagine that this computer willwork as a kind of server.
Letās create a folder to which other computerswill have access through VPN. Make it shared. To do it:ā¢ Right-click on it / Properties / Sharing / Advanced sharingā¢ Check the box next to āShare this folderā ā¢ Then click on āPermissionsā and allowāFull controlā ā¢ Apply. OK. Now letās move on to the computer of animaginary user who needs to connect to this freshly created VPN server and get accessto the folder.
In order to connect to the VPN server:ā¢ Open Settings / Network & Internet / VPN / Add a VPN connectionā¢ When you open the connection settings menu choose the VPN provider as āWindows(built-in)ā ā¢ Connection name ā any You will see thisname in the list of other network connections ā¢ Server name or address In this field, enter the IP address or name of the computer where the VPN server is connected. Thatās why we are back to the server tolearn its IP address. There are several ways to do it. For example, you can go to the website 2ip.ru,or you can ask your network administrator.
ā¢ Enter it into the field āServer nameor addressā ā¢ VPN type ā automaticā¢ In the fields āUser nameā and āPasswordā you should enter the name and password ofthe account which is active on the server computer. I mean the user next to which you checkedthe box while creating the VPN server. ā¢ After that, click āSaveā and you willsee that a VPN connection is ready. To use it to connect to our VPN server, clickon it and select āConnect.ā Sometimes, when connecting, you can see anerror saying āA connection to the remote computer could not be established.
You might need to change the network settingsfor this connection.ā In this case, you should modify the IncomingConnection settings in the server computer. To be exact, specify the pool of possibleconnected IP addresses. To do it:ā¢ go to the server computer ā¢ Network and Sharing Center / Change adaptersettings ā¢ Right-click on Incoming connection / Properties/ Networking / IP v4 / Properties ā¢ Check the box next to āSpecify IP addressesāā¢ And enter the pool of addresses. You can use any, but you canāt enter onlyone. ā¢ ŠŠ / ŠŠAfter that, go back to the computer trying.
To connect and try again. Now the computer is connected to the VPN server. Go to network connections and you will seeyour fresh new connection you have just created, with the name you have assigned to it whencreating. In order to get access to the shared folderin the computer which is the VPN server: ā¢ Run the command āipconfigā on thecomputer where you created the VPN server and find the IP address of the VPN networkthat you created, or ask the administrator of this network. ā¢ After that, open Explorer in the userāscomputer and enter this IP address into the.
Address field, putting two backslashes beforethe address. If nothing happens, the problem might be inthe firewall settings of the server computer. That is why, in this caseļ go to the VPN server computer. When you are there, go to Control Panel / WindowsFirewal / Advanced settings ļ Go to Inbound Rules and find the rulenamed āNetlogon Service (NP-In).ā Click on it. As you can see, it is disabled. Turn it on. ļ Now go to the client computer and tryaccessing the shared folder in the server.
Computer again. ļ Enter the user password for the VPN server. ā¢ Here is the folder we have shared before. I have just shown how to connect directlyto the computer which is a VPN server. But if it is connected to a network througha router, you have to set up forwarding for port 1723. This is how you do it. ā¢ Go to the settings of the router throughwhich the VPN computer server is connected to the network.
In one of my previous videos, I have shownit in detail. You will find the link in the description:ā¢ Go to the menu Forwarding / Virtual servers / Add newI have already set up forwarding in my computer. Thatās why Iāll show it on my example. ā¢ Enter the service port ā 1723ā¢ IP address: address of the computer where the VPN server will be created. In our case, it isā¦ .How can you learn it? There are several ways to do it.
One of them: enter the command ipconfig inthe Command Prompt. We need the IPv4 address of the main networkadapter. Itās usually the first on the list. The two other, in my case, are the virtualmachine adapters. ā¢ Protocol ā All; Status ā Enabledā¢ Save ā¢ Some routers need to be restarted afterthat. ā¢ Thatās all. As a result, inbound VPN connections willbe redirected to this PC. And the last.
After the VPN connection is ready, the clientcomputer will be disconnected from the Internet. To make sure it still has access to the Internetwhen the VPN connection is active, do the following:ā¢ When the VPN is disconnected, go to network connections of the client computerā¢ Right-click on the created VPN connectionand select Properties / Networking / IP v4 / Properties / Advancedā¢ In the tab āIP Settings,ā uncheck thebox next to āUse default gateway in remote network.ā ā¢ Thatās all.
Next time when you connect to the Internet, the connection will not be lost. In the process of creating a VPN connectionsome additional issues may appear ā errors or failures. They canāt be covered in one short video,as there are so many settings. If you have any questions, leave a commentto ask one. That is all for now. Good luck.
Would I be able to create a VPN on a computer and still be able to use that computer through my home internet. basically, I want to use a VPN without having to pay the stupid prices of like, NordVPN or ExpressVPN. I just want my own PC to be its own VPN, so my data is encrypted but don't have to pay a company to do it. also this would mean my Ping would be normal.
thank for this. I was able to use this video to allow me to use my laptop to access my 5900x workstation pc anywhere I want too
i am unable to find the password for the active users, i tried everything, even if i try changing the password, the password gets changed by windows to an unknown one, if i try connecting i get this error: the remote connection was not made because the attempted vpn tunnels failed
Sir
I received knowledge about vpn…. Thankyou for nice description
Sir, can I use this method on a hyperv Windows 10 from azure?
hey there i just have a question how would i connect to my windows VPN from a mac?
Thanks for that detailed Video!!! very useful. Just an question if you please. All the steps you described are confirmed. But i receive the following message when i try to connect from a client computer just after the login credential screen. >>THE REMOTE CONNECTION WAS NOT MADE BECAUSE THE ATTEMPTED VPN TUNNEL FAILED THE VPN SERVER MIGHT BE UNREACHABLE. IF THIS CONNECTION IS ATTEMPTING TO USE AN L2TP/IPSEC TUNNEL, THE SECURITY PARAMETERS REQUIRED FOR IPSEC NEGOTIATION MIGHT NOT BE CONFIGURED PROPERLY<< the server computer has Kaspesky Internet Security installed but the time that test were made was in Pause Mode. Thanks again.
i didn't see any ike response or any other response by an underlying protocol, used for vpn tunnel, on the VPN server.
when we create that new inbound connection under network adapter list, what's actually happening on the system.
– does it has active service on the "server" handling the income connections
– do we have to configure local windows firewall to allow IPsec?
i'm trying to secure my local/home connections (within the LAN). i believe that IPsec is by design a client-server architecture, and securing LAN connections using IPsec would not be possible, since it would require a central device, handling tunnel creation.
i'm trying to secure the connection between two local computers using IPsec, which may be possible, if VPN daemon is active on one of the computers
hope this make sense….
