Raveneau sardonically agrees to deliver her to her childhood sweetheart in Virginia but doesn't count on his own potent attraction to the enchanting, courageous Devon.

Through high adventure, swashbuckling sea battles, and the colorful history of America's revolution, the couple battles the fiery passion that binds them together.

Loved the setting of the Black Eagle privateer and that Devon was a strong female lead to Andres’ alpha male. It was also a coming of age story set against the Revolutionary War. The romance made you wish the Black Eagle could dock outside your door sans Devon!!

  • Not bad but was a little slow

At first I had a difficult time getting into this book. The history was great, but the characters weren't developed very well, especially in the first half. Transitioning from one point to another was also rough: at one point, the author switched so quickly from year to year it was confusing. However, I stuck with it. The history was almost too involved at parts; don't get me wrong, i love history and the Revolutions (American or French) are my favorite time periods. But, I' d rather see the characters developed within the period rather than having world famous historical names and places being added here and there. Also, more details of these places would be great! I didn't get a real feel of the main character's physical attributes until they got on the ship. The second half was so much better. The dynamic between the two characters became much more exciting, especially with the cat fights between the women. Personally, I like a little more steam to my love scenes, but it wasn't a deal breaker. Overall, I am going to read the author's second one in this series. Her writing seemed to improve throughout this book, so perhaps the next book will be even better.

I am so glad to finally read a romance novel that had me all giddy. It was beautiful because I am so used to the other authors writing so trashy and they always ruin a perfect story with gross writing or odd situations. This writer stays pretty classy which makes it a better read. Thanks.

Great book, the best I've read in a while.
  • Frustrated.

My interest was peaked by the plot summary and I wanted to like the romance but could not. In a swashbuckling maritime adventure I wanted the girl to have character and ability but instead Devon is the stereotypical silly, indulged, pretty blond who without any reason but lust falls in love with Mr. Handsome. If this were a high school drama, she would be the air brained pretty flirt, albeit with a sad family, who gets with the hot teacher.
