DAY TWO: THE WISE MAN’S FEAR

“There are three things all wise men fear: the sea in storm, a night with no moon, and the anger of a gentle man.”

My name is Kvothe. You may have heard of me.

So begins a tale told from his own point of view—a story unequaled in fantasy literature. Now in The Wise Man’s Fear, Day Two of The Kingkiller Chronicle, Kvothe takes his first steps on the path of the hero and learns how difficult life can be when a man becomes a legend in his own time.

Praise for The Kingkiller Chronicle:

“The best epic fantasy I read last year.... He’s bloody good, this Rothfuss guy.”
George R. R. Martin, New York Times-bestselling author of A Song of Ice and Fire

“Rothfuss has real talent, and his tale of Kvothe is deep and intricate and wondrous.”
Terry Brooks, New York Times-bestselling author of Shannara

"It is a rare and great pleasure to find a fantasist writing...with true music in the words."
Ursula K. Le Guin, award-winning author of Earthsea

"The characters are real and the magic is true.”
Robin Hobb, New York Times-bestselling author of Assassin’s Apprentice

"Masterful.... There is a beauty to Pat's writing that defies description."
Brandon Sanderson, New York Times-bestselling author of Mistborn

    10 years later....no next book.
  • Slow and drawn out

To much time spent on, what I felt, were unimportant components that didn’t drive the plot. Then when something exciting took place it was wrapped up quickly and on to the next boring episode of whining about the girl. Not bad, but definitely not good.

Beyond my expectations. It has some unnecessary details and really long descriptions. Overall, it is a super interesting book.
  • Great Prose but story falls off a bit from the first book.

While the prose is just as wonderful as the Name of the Wind, the story is not quite as interesting. This is still a highly recommended book to read, but not quite the amazing achievement that his prior book was.

This book, like the first, is a masterful bit of story telling but the reader should be aware that there is no ending. It's as if Lord of the Rings stopped with the second book. Apparently these books have been so successful that the author can live off of royalties and book tours and has lost interest in Kvothe and the Chandrian. After ten years, I have given up hope of a sequel. In that time the author has written another book, The Slow Regard of Silent Things, but it is not a continuation of the original story. I still am in awe of his writing but sad that there is so little of it.

Day 2!! What an amazing continuation to the story. Patrick Rothfus certainly knows the way of things. All things. I'm pretty sure everyone who read Name of the Wind already knows how great this book will be so, I'm done here. I'm on to Auri's story while I patiently wait for Door of Stone.
  • One of the best books ever written, which is incredible since the first book is also incredible!!

Rothfuss can't stop! This is an incredible sequal to one of the best books every written, and this one is even better than the first. The continuing journey of Kvothe is exhilarating. And once again, the book is narrated by the one and only Nick Podehl, who is one of the greatest audio production artists to ever live. A great book, and a fantastic audiobook!
